If you came to this post thinking that I was going to talk about Disney, then I am sorry to disappoint you. I have actually been thinking that I need to finish up my lesson plans for the Animal Kingdom. I was just re-reading the Well-Trained Mind and it struck my as odd that memory work for the sciences is not recommended until the logic years.
Here is the memory work suggested for biology:
- the basic phyla and their characteristics
- parts of a flower
- types of compound leaves
- types of plant roots
- body systems (skeletal, digestive, etc)
- major bones
- types of teeth
I am unsure as to why this is not mentioned in the grammar stage and I think that I may just have to post this on the WTM board to get an answer.
