As a member of the TOS Homeschool Crew, I was given a trial membership to Time 4 Learning for review purposes. Time 4 Learning is an online curriculum for preK to 8th grade. Signing up for our account on their website was very easy and my dd was very excited to try this site out. She loves being on the computer by herself and is very proficient with the mouse.
My dd tried out their preK program and it was a decent fit for her. There are 51 different topics in the preK program, including topics on measuring, money, manners, insects, and mixing colors. In each topic there are a variety of activities (usually 4) to engage/entertain your child. My daughter listened to the Wheels on the Bus song countless times on the first night that we tried it out. I had to help her out just a few times when she couldn’t quite understand what she was supposed to do (ie. where to click to make something happen).
My dd asked to get on this website numerous times before she slowly lost interest in the activities. She did complete several of the topics and I am sure that if I asked her if she wanted to do some more today that she would say yes. However, I don’t plan on continuing our membership since the program is quite expensive (see below for pricing). I do think that if you had a situation where you were short on parent-led school time (eg. a new pregnancy, a new baby, family emergency), then this might be a great investment.
I should also mention that you may generate reports to see how much time your child has spent on the site and what activities they have attempted, as well as accomplished. I checked this feature out a few times, but for the preK level, I don’t think that this is a selling point for me.
Price (quoted from the website): The monthly membership is $19.95 for the first child and $14.95 for each additional child, with nothing else to buy. Your billing cycle begins on the day of registration and members are billed every 30 days, until the membership is cancelled. You can also cancel and have your money completely refunded within the first 14 days.
Pros: Engaging, with a wide variety of activities for the child.
Cons: Expensive. May be frustrating if your child cannot easily control the mouse on their own.
Disclaimer: I was given a free trial membership of this product as a member of the TOS Crew for the purpose of this review. No other compensation was received.
