Brushing off the cobwebs

We made it back from our vacation without any tears – my dd was ready to go home this time.  I am so glad that we did not stay for more than a month, as I feel that would have been too much for her.  Anyhow, I have been to the library and we are continuing with the Brightly Beaming curriculum.  Next topic is the moon.

I was also informed that I was selected to be a member of the Homeschool Crew.  This should be a great bit of fun for me since I love checking out new curricula.

While I was on vacation I also took the plunge and ordered the Michael Clay Thompson LA program for myself.  My one big fear about homeschooling my dd has to do with grammar and writing.  I had a miserable education in this area and I just dread having to teach it.  So, with that in mind, I decided to tackle it head first.  I have just begun to look through the books and will give a more in-depth review later.  My first impression though was, “Oh bother – what have I gotten myself into?”  I believe that it is much the same feeling that others have when they see a program like Miquon for the first time.

I have read about half of Grammar Island and half of Sentence Island.  It takes a little bit of time to get into the stories, but then you start to appreciate the humor.  I actually found myself laughing out loud at a few parts in Sentence Island.  Unfortunately, the Grammar Island book did not contain all of the pages it should have, but I must say that customer service at Royal Fireworks Press is excellent and my replacement book should be in the mail.  I am actually looking forward to its arrival and continuing my read of elementary grammar.
