This is my dd’s favorite subject right now so we checked out many books.  Here is the list:

All aboard the Polar Express [board book] by Chris Van Allsburg – too babyish
America’s railroads by Lynn M Stone –
Big book of trains from the National Railway Museum – beautiful pictures of all different types of trains
Chugga-chugga choo-choo by Kevin Lewis – enjoyable
Clickety clack by Robert Spence, III – one of our favorites for a while now
Freight train [board book] by Donald Crews – a bit babyish, but good for going over the names of colors
I’m taking a trip on my train by Shirley Neitzel – dd loved the ryhmes in this book
The little engine that could by Watty Piper – the classic story
The little train [board book] by Lois Lenski – babyish, but my dd still enjoys this book
The prairie train by Antoine O Flatharta – would be much better as a geography read aloud
Steam locomotives : whistling, chugging, smoking iron horses of the past by Karl Zimmermann – very advanced, more interesting for adults
Train by John Coiley
William and the night train by Mij Kelly – great bedtime read aloud
