This week’s topic was okay, but not the greatest book selections. Books we checked out:
If You Give a Mouse a Cookie by Laura Numeroff – cute story, but I’m not going to add it to our library
The Gingerbread Boy by Paul Galdone – a classic tale
Gingerbread Baby by Jan Brett – gorgeous illustrations, interesting take on a classic story
Milk and Cookies by Frank Asch – book on tape that my dd destroyed (see below)
Who Took the Cookies from the Cookie Jar? by Bonnie Lass & Philemon Sturges – beautiful illustrations
So, the main lesson learned this week is to explain to children about the delicate nature of cassette tapes! My dd and I checked out one of the books as an audio cassette. She likes to look through her library selections in the car on the way home and I let her have the library bag as usual. After pulling into our garage I went to unbuckle her and found that she had pulled out all of the tape from the cassette. In addition, the tape had been broken (luckily right at the beginning of the recording). Upon later reflection, I realized that my dd has never before seen a cassette tape. Part of the blame certainly falls on me for not instructing her on the proper handling of such items. Lesson learned.
